I left my husband for the weekend to spend Mother’s Day with my daughter and future son-in-law. It was a pretty chill couple of days.

It started out with delicious smoked BBQ wings and ribs at one of our favorite restaurants. I got the basket with no sides to avoid anything carby or containing gluten. My daughter had the burnt ends, Texas toast, and mac and cheese.

We then went to Goode’s greenhouse, a family tradition. My mom took me to it starting as a toddler for all our vegetable and flower purchases. It’s a huge place. I fondly remember skipping down the many aisles in the connected greenhouses. I even worked there for one year, planting flowers as a teenager.

When I had kids, I took them like my mom had taken me. As my mom got older, my daughter and I would get her plants for her since she could no longer make the trip physically. My other child, well, never took to the joy of gardening.

After spending an hour or more in the greenhouse on the busiest day of the year, we loaded up our flowers, mostly perennials like peony, phlox, delphinium, and poppy, into the back of the car and decided to go garage sale hunting.

We made it to three garage sales. I got a lamp that I wanted to add to the living room for when I’m reading. We redecorated the living room around…
